2013 Summer Tour & Workshop
This August the musicians of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will come together for their annual summer workshop in Spain and their 2013 European tour, giving 12 concerts in ten cities across Spain, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany under the baton of their co-founder Daniel Barenboim.
This year’s tour will include the world premiere performances of Jordanian-born German composer Saed Haddad’s "Que la lumière soit" and Israeli composer Chaya Czernowin’s “At the Fringe of Our Gaze.” The summer concerts will also mark the bicentennials of Verdi and Wagner with programs that include preludes and overtures by the two opera composers. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra's tour culminates
August 25at the Waldbühne Berlin with a program of music by Verdi and Wagner as well as Berlioz's
Symphonie fantastique. Prior to their open-air concert in the German capital, the Divan Orchestra and Barenboim give performances in Seville at the Teatro Central (
August 8) and Teatro de la Maestranza (
August 9), in Granada at the Palacio de Carlos V - La Alhambra (
August 10), in La Roque-d'Anthéron at the Parc du Château de Florans (
August 12), in Marseille at the Opéra de Marseille (
August 13), in Basel at the Stadtkasino (
August 15), in Lucerne at the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (
August 18 & 19), in Wiesbaden at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden (
August 20), in Stuttgart at the Kongresszentrum Liederhalle (
August 22), and in Salzburg at the Grosses Festspielhaus (
August 24).
The 2013 summer tour coincides with the tenth anniversary of the untimely passing of Edward Said, who, along with Daniel Barenboim, co-founded the West-Eastern Divan as a workshop for Israeli, Palestinian and other Arab musicians in 1999.Explore the concert programs here.
