Live concert broadcasts August 12 & 13 from Marseille, 2013 European Capital of Culture
The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’s 2013 summer tour is now underway. Following their opening concerts in Seville and a performance at Granada’s historic Alhambra Palace, the orchestra and their co-founder Daniel Barenboim appear at the Festival International de Piano de la Roque d’Anthéron in Marseille for concerts on August 12 and 13. The orchestra’s performances are part of a wider celebration of Marseille-Provence as the 2013 European Capital of Culture. Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said co-founded the West-Eastern Divan by invitation of the Kunstfest Weimar in 1999, when the historic German city was Europe’s Capital of Culture. Listeners worldwide can join the audience in Marseille thanks to two live broadcasts. Radio France airs the orchestra’s August 12 concert live, beginning at 21:00 CEST. The following day, CultureBox will webcast the West-Eastern Divan’s August 13 performance at the Opéra de Marseille at 19:00 CEST.
