Thank you, Buenos Aires. Hello, Europe!
Following a triumphant eleven-day, sold-out Teatro Colón Festival in Buenos Aires–where over 22,000 listeners flocked to the iconic opera house at Plaza Lavalle to hear the orchestra, Daniel Barenboim, and guest Martha Argerich perform–the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra heads to Europe to perform at the continent’s major music festivals. The orchestra’s Teatro Colón residency featured unique performances with Martha Argerich and comedy troupe Les Luthiers, concert performances of selections from Tristan und Isolde with a cast of operatic luminaries, an open-air concert at Puente Alsina before an audience of over ten 10,000, and the world premiere performances of Ramal by Kareem Roustom and Resonating Sounds by Ayal Adler. From Argentina, the West-Eastern Divan now travels to Europe, where they kick off their tour of the continent at the Lucerne Festival (August 17 & 18), before heading to the BBC Proms (August 20), and Salzburg Festival (August 21 & 22). As with tradition, the Divan cap off their summer tour together with a spectacular concert at the Waldbühne Berlin on August 24 with a program of Mozart and Ravel. Co-founder Daniel Barenboim conducts the orchestra in works by Ravel and will lead and solo in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27, KV 595.
