World premieres at Lucerne Festival
On Sunday, 18 August, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra - led by its co-founder Daniel Barenboim - gives the first of two concerts at the Lucerne Festival as part of the ensemble’s 2013 summer tour. The 18 August concert sees the world premieres of Que la lumìere soit by Jordanian composer Saed Haddad and At the Fringe of Our Gaze by Israeli composer Chaya Czernowin (read her preface to the composition). The program juxtaposes these two new works alongside preludes and overtures by Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. Prior to the concert, there will be a 4:00pm screening of Paul Smaczny’s film Paths to Music by Daniel Barenboim. UNITEL CLASSICA will broadcast the 18 August concert at 20:15. (Asia broadcast 19 August: Seoul 20:15 / Taipei 19:15) For their second Lucerne Festival concert on 19 August, the musicians present a concert comprising Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, Alban Berg’s Chamber Concerto for piano, violin, and thirdteen wind instruments, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.
